Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? We've got answers to help you feel confident before your first ride.

What exactly is Healthy Mind & Horse Time?

It’s not just about horses—it’s about YOU! We use horse interactions to help people build confidence, set boundaries, and develop life skills. Think of it as personal growth with a playful, four-legged twist!

Do I need horse experience?

Nope! Our program is designed for beginners and those who’ve never even touched a horse before. If you’re willing to learn, we’re ready to teach!

For Individual One On One Sessions: Do we get to ride the horses?

Sometimes! While our focus is on groundwork and personal development, riding is offered occasionally as a fun bonus. But don’t worry—you’ll still be up close and personal with our amazing horses.

How do horses help with personal growth?

Horses are like giant, honest mirrors—they reflect your emotions, test your patience, and challenge your leadership. If you’re unclear, unconfident, or pushing too hard, they’ll let you know (politely… or not so politely!). It’s a hands-on way to learn life lessons FAST.

What if I’m afraid of horses?

That’s totally okay! Fear is a natural response, and we’ll help you work through it at your own pace. No pressure, just encouragement!

What should I wear?

Closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops!), comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dusty (jeans and boot healed shoes if registered for the learning to ride program)…, and a readiness to move around. Think adventure gear, not fashion runway.

What’s the difference between this and regular riding lessons?

Traditional riding lessons focus on riding skills. Our program focuses on YOU—your mindset, confidence, communication, and personal growth. The horses help teach you, whether you’re on their backs or on the ground.

Can parents stay and watch?

Absolutely! Some parents like to observe, while others bring a book or take a little “me time” in the car. Either way, you’re welcome!

How long are the sessions?

Most sessions run about 1 to 1.5 hours. Long enough to make an impact, but short enough to leave you wanting more!

What if I want a longer-term program?

We’ve got you covered! We offer multi-week programs where you can dive deeper into themes like confidence, respect, responsibility, and connection—all with the help of our horses. If you’d like to further your riding skills, we will refer you to some excellent instructors.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Rain? Wind? A heatwave? We’ll adjust as needed! Sometimes that means shifting to covered areas, modifying activities, or rescheduling if necessary. Safety and comfort come first!

How do I sign up?

Just reach out! Our phone number to call / text is (707) 486-2560 and our email address is [email protected].

Send us a message, and we’ll help you find the best program for you or your child.

Do you offer private sessions?

Yes! Whether you need one-on-one time for personal growth, confidence-building, or just a unique experience, we’re happy to customize a session for you.

What if I’m not sure which workshop is right for me (or my child)?

We offer different workshops focused on areas like peace, confidence, boundaries, motivation, and more. Do you like an upbeat vibe or relaxing or inspiring? Do you / your child want to learn to connect / ride? So many options 🤩

I (my child) really wants to learn how to ride. Do you offer this service?

Yes - HMHT is my program that combines horse interaction, learning to ride, and connecting lessons from the barn to real life. If riding is a primary focus, I’m happy to offer an introductory/sample session for $60. Every session provides something meaningful to take home and apply beyond the barn—it’s not a “what happens at the barn stays at the barn” experience. My priority is creating a space where people can be themselves, grow in self-awareness and relationships, and engage with both horses and others with respect, boundaries, and have a whole lot of fun. We only get one life … let’s make it amazing and impactful 🤩.

What’s the best part about working with horses?

Besides the fact that they’re adorable? Horses teach you to be present, honest, and confident. They challenge you in the best ways, and they don’t judge. Plus, there’s nothing quite like earning the trust of a 1,000+ pound animal!
